However, paulownia wood's naturally soft material was susceptible to scratching during everyday use. To address this limitation, this piece replaces paulownia with stronger ash wood, which is carbonized and finished with black lacquer. This preserves the original subtle and understated texture while adding durability and a contemporary sensibility. Furthermore, the proportions of the traditional book cabinet—originally designed for floor-sitting—have been adjusted in height to suit upright living, making it convenient to use as a side table or accent table.
